Governor Abbott Proclaims 2024 Economic Development Week In Texas

  • Here’s what happened: Last week was Economic Development Week in Texas.
  • We’re kind of a HUGE deal: Gov. Abbott and the Legislature have continued to prioritize low taxes, smart regulations, a fair legal system and strong workforce to keep Texas’ economic engine running on all cylinders.
    • Texas is home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other state.
    • The Lone Star State has been named Best State for Business for a record-breaking 20 years and recently won Site Selection Magazine’s Governor’s Cup for the 12th year in a row.
  • In his own words: “Economic development in Texas is a team sport that requires a collaborative effort from organizations across the state focused on attracting new businesses and new investments, as well as promoting and retaining business, right here in Texas” –Governor Greg Abbott
  • Remind me: In 2023, TLR championed the creation of a new specialized business court—a priority of Gov. Abbott’s—to strengthen our state’s economic competitiveness.
    • The September launch of the new court will help Texas create a consistent, predictable and coherent body of case law for complex business litigation overseen by expert judges.
  • TLR Thoughts: Texas didn’t become the eighth largest economy in the world by accident. It’s the result of hard work and smart policy choices by our leaders, including embracing tort reform 30 years ago. Catch-up quick
