What happened: The launch of the Texas business court continues to bring attention to the Lone Star State’s strong economy and the steps Texas’ leadership has taken to attract job creators.
Remind me: The Texas Business Court was created through House Bill 19 to streamline complex business cases and reduce backlogs in state district courts. The court focuses exclusively on business-to-business disputes, including corporate governance cases with more than $5 million in controversy or other “qualified transactions” exceeding $10 million.
In his own words: “For Texas to create [the business] court suggests that we want to have a court that is to like the Delaware courts. I think Texas is saying to businesses, ‘Come here, we will have a court for you that will help you, in a very sophisticated way, resolve your disputes and you can put your trust in this state.’” –Ryan Wooten, partner, Orrick
