AUSTIN – Texans for Lawsuit Reform today issued the following statement regarding the final passage of House Bill 1774, the consumer protection bill to stop rampant weather-related lawsuit abuse:
“The Texas House took strong action today to stop lawsuit abuse, protect Texas property owners, and ensure access to affordable property insurance for all,” TLR Communications Director Lucy Nashed said. “By putting consumer protection first, the House has brought us one step closer to shutting down abusive lawsuit mills and stopping storm-chasing lawyers from hijacking Texans’ property insurance. We thank them for their leadership on HB 1774.”
The bill now heads to the Senate. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has named stopping hailstorm lawsuit abuse as one of this top ten priority items for the session. The bill author, Sen. Kelly Hancock, has already secured majority support for this legislation.
